UV EXPOSURE • HOT TIRES • EXTERIOR CONCRETE

Garage Floors Live a Hard Life.

Sunlight at the garage door, hot tires, automotive fluids, foot traffic and changing temperatures all put a coating system to work. Exterior concrete adds even more exposure. The materials and the complete system need to match the environment.

THE WHOLE SYSTEM MATTERS

Not Every Floor Coating Faces the Same Conditions.

A garage coating lives in a different environment than a decorative interior floor. A patio, walkway, driveway, carport or pool deck faces different conditions again. Sun exposure, temperature swings, traffic, water and the concrete itself all matter.

Clean Air Epoxy builds its systems around the project environment rather than treating every slab as the same application.

Choose the coating system for where the concrete lives—not just for how the sample looks.
THREE COMMON QUESTIONS

Sun. Tires. Weather.

What About UV Exposure?

Sunlight can reach garage floors through open doors and windows, while exterior concrete may live in direct sun. Clean Air Epoxy uses a non-yellowing aliphatic polyaspartic topcoat designed for UV resistance.

What About Hot Tires?

Garage floors experience heat and pressure where vehicles park. Performance depends on the complete bond from prepared concrete through primer, basecoat and protective topcoat—not on a single product name.

What About Exterior Concrete?

Exterior surfaces are more exposed to sunlight, weather and environmental conditions. They require a system and installation scope selected for exterior use.

UV RESISTANCE

Why the Topcoat Matters in the Sun.

The protective surface of the Clean Air system is a two-component aliphatic polyaspartic topcoat. It is designed to be non-yellowing, chemically resistant and UV resistant.

That matters at garage thresholds and other areas where sunlight reaches the finished coating. Exterior projects also require appropriate UV-stable components throughout the specified system.

Protection Is More Than Gloss

The topcoat is not merely there to make the floor shiny. It is the protective finished surface over the decorative flake and basecoat beneath it.

HOT TIRES & GARAGE USE

The Bond Beneath the Tire Is the Bigger Story.

When a vehicle returns home, the coating beneath each tire experiences concentrated heat, pressure and repeated use. A durable garage floor therefore depends on more than the visible top layer.

01

Concrete

The slab is evaluated and prepared for the system.

02

Primer

Clean Air’s proprietary spray-on primer establishes the bonding foundation.

03

Polyurea

The fast-curing polyurea basecoat builds the coating layer that receives the flake.

04

Polyaspartic

The protective topcoat completes the finished surface.

EXTERIOR CONCRETE

Patios, Walkways, Driveways, Carports & Pool Decks.

Exterior concrete is often more porous and more exposed than a typical garage slab. Clean Air exterior installations therefore use a project-specific system that can require more primer, a UV-stable basecoat, a smaller decorative flake and additional topcoat.

Some exterior finishes may also receive a return visit for a matte finish when the desired appearance is closer to natural stone.

Exterior is not simply “the garage system, but outside.” The environment changes the installation.
WHY EXTERIOR SCOPE CAN COST MORE

More Exposure Can Mean More Material.

More Porous Concrete

Exterior slabs can require additional primer depending on porosity and condition.

UV-Stable Components

The coating specification must account for sustained sunlight and outdoor exposure.

Additional Protective Material

Exterior systems can require more topcoat and a different decorative flake specification than standard garage installations.

Exterior pricing is commonly around $6 per square foot as a planning reference, but project conditions, local Market pricing and scope determine the actual quote.

START WITH THE ENVIRONMENT

Garage or Exterior, the Concrete Gets Evaluated First.

Cracks, contamination, existing coatings, porosity and moisture concerns can affect any concrete-coating project. Exterior exposure adds another layer of variables.

A responsible installer evaluates the slab and the environment before determining the appropriate coating scope.

How Long Will the Project Take?

Many standard qualifying garage installations can be completed in one day. Exterior work and additional project scope may require a different schedule.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

UV, Hot Tire & Exterior Coating FAQs.

Will a Clean Air garage floor yellow in sunlight?

The Clean Air system uses a non-yellowing aliphatic polyaspartic topcoat designed for UV resistance. Project conditions and the complete specified system still matter.

Can hot tires damage a garage floor coating?

Vehicle heat and pressure are real garage-floor conditions. Performance depends on proper concrete preparation, adhesion and the complete coating system.

Can the same coating be used on patios and pool decks?

Exterior projects require a system selected for outdoor exposure. Clean Air’s exterior specification differs from a standard garage installation.

Why can exterior coatings cost more?

Exterior concrete may be more porous and can require additional primer, UV-stable components, different flake sizing and more protective topcoat.

Does exterior concrete need preparation?

Yes. Every project begins with evaluating the slab and determining the appropriate preparation and repair scope.
